A Message From Mrs. Herrick

Welcome to a new school year Standiford Sharks! I am very excited to see so many students back on campus!!! We are starting back after a long absence for many students and we look forward to seeing many happy students as they explore the campus and enjoy the company of their peers.

We are proud to be a school who uses Second Step as our social emotional program, which empowers our students to become leaders of their own learning, social interactions and self being. We know that social emotional health is key for opening the door to learning. Students will set goals, track their own progress, reflect on their collected data, and celebrate successes. Our school is made up of a diverse population of learners and each one is supported to our fullest ability. I believe in rigorous learning for ALL Students!

Our teachers focus on the needs of the whole student. We focus student by student and skill by skill to make certain students are receiving all that they need to be successful leaders and learners. Many of the teachers utilize small groups to reinforce learning concepts and to address learning loss.

Standiford is also home to the Sylvan Union School District GATE program as well as our Autism program for grades K-5. Our students who participate in the GATE program follow the California State Standards as well as the GATE Standards of Depth, Complexity, Acceleration, and Novelty. Students across the district take the GATE assessment in 2nd grade and, if they qualify, move to Standiford in the third grade. All our students have access to the core curriculum with support for each student from MTSS- Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, to Resource support, to Special Education classes following a pathway of rigor and high expectations leading them into their middle school years.

Many great things happen at Standiford Elementary School. Success truly happens here because we are a Jawsome Standiford Family who puts students first!

Warm regards,

Mrs. Karen Herrick
